Care & Democracy

Family Values @ Work Action works in partnership with our state coalitions to build political power among historically disenfranchised voters in the movement for care and caregiving, and other economic security issues, through public education and civic engagement strategies.

Why Take Action?

In the two maps below, you can see where paid family leave and sick time laws exist across the U.S.—and how many workers are actually covered by them. Together, they reveal a picture of uneven protection, highlighting both legislative progress and the gaps that still leave millions without basic caregiving support.

Map 1: Tracks which U.S. states have adopted paid family and medical leave (PFML) and/or paid sick and safe days (PSSD) laws as of June 2025. It highlights whether these laws are mandatory or voluntary, and when they were enacted.

Map 2: Builds on that by showing how many workers are actually covered in each state under these laws—quantifying their real-world impact.
